Frequently Asked Questions

It is logical that when you start a new adventure, all kinds of questions come to mind.

Fortunately, we can already answer many of your questions and give you a good idea of what to expect during this special adventure.

🐬 Dolphins & nature

  • How do we treat nature? We want to disturb the dolphins and the reef as little as possible. We do not touch the animals, do not chase them, and let them decide for themselves whether to come closer. We remain calm in the water, keep a sufficient distance, and leave nothing behind in nature.
  • Why are there so many dolphins at Sataya? The sheltered lagoon of Sataya is a beloved resting place for wild spinner dolphins. Their presence does not automatically mean that they seek contact with humans. Therefore, every encounter unfolds differently.
  • How big is the chance that we will see dolphins? The chance is high, but an encounter can never be guaranteed. Dolphins are wild and decide for themselves where they swim and how they behave.
  • Is swimming with wild dolphins responsible? Yes, as long as we respect the animals and prioritize their natural behavior. We do not feed, lure, or touch the dolphins, and we do not force any interaction.
  • Isn't the presence of multiple boats disruptive? We deliberately choose a small group and try to keep the environment as quiet as possible. We do not chase the dolphins and give them space when they swim away.

🤿 Swimming & snorkeling

  • Do I need to be an experienced swimmer? No. It is, however, nice if you feel reasonably comfortable in the water. Our guides will accompany you, and a life jacket is available if you want extra reassurance.
  • Can I join if I have never snorkeled before? Certainly. Before departure, you can participate in a snorkeling workshop at Sealence. On board, you will also receive explanations and assistance with using your snorkeling equipment.
  • What if I find open water scary? That is perfectly normal. You decide for yourself when to enter the water and what feels comfortable. Our guides stay nearby and help you calmly become familiar with the water.
  • How do you manage to swim along with dolphins? You don't have to swim after the dolphins. When they are curious, they can stay with the snorkelers on their own. The zodiac stays nearby to guide the group.
  • Can I swim without snorkeling equipment? During an official dolphin session, we use a mask, snorkel, and fins. Around the boat, you can also simply swim when conditions permit and the crew gives permission.
  • Can I dive as a freediver? Experienced freedivers can in principle participate, always with attention to safety, other snorkelers, and the animals. We do not dive near resting dolphins and maintain sufficient distance.
  • Do I have to participate in all snorkeling sessions? No. There is no mandatory program. You can also just stay on board, relax, read, sleep, or enjoy the view.

☀️ Daily program & free time

  • What does a day look like? The program is determined by the weather, the sea, and the behavior of the dolphins. You can count on a relaxed mix of snorkeling, meals, and free time.
  • Can I swim every day? If conditions are good, you can swim around the boat between sunrise and sunset. It is important to always mention this to the crew so they can keep an eye on you. If you go further away from the boat, we ask you to swim with a buddy and report this in advance.
  • Isn't a whole week at sea long? It is precisely the combination of adventure and relaxation that makes the week special. You have plenty of time to snorkel, relax, read a book, or enjoy each other's company.
  • Can I sleep under the stars? Yes. You can sleep outside on the upper deck. Due to the low light pollution at Sataya, the starry sky is often impressive, and with luck, you can even see the Milky Way.

🚢 On board

  • How large is the group? We deliberately travel on a small scale, with a minimum of 12 and a maximum of 16 guests. This ensures personal guidance, a peaceful atmosphere, and sufficient space on board.
  • What can I eat and drink? Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are served daily as a buffet, with vegetarian options and dishes containing meat or fish. Water, coffee, tea, soft drinks, fruit, and snacks are available. Alcohol is not served.
  • Can I accommodate dietary requirements? Do you have an allergy, intolerance, or specific dietary needs? Please let us know in advance so we can see what is possible together.
  • Can I charge my phone and devices? 220V sockets are available in the common areas. There are no power outlets in the cabins due to fire safety regulations. A charged power bank is therefore handy.
  • Is there mobile coverage? There is virtually no mobile coverage at sea. For many guests, that digital peace is precisely part of the experience.

👒 Sun & clothing

  • What should I bring? You will receive a complete packing list after your booking. Please remember to bring at least swimwear, snorkeling gear, a quick-drying towel, comfortable clothing, sunglasses, a cap or hat, UV clothing, and adequate sun protection.
  • How do I protect myself from the sun? The Egyptian sun is strong and is reflected even more by the water. Preferably wear UV-protective clothing while snorkeling, use coral-friendly sunscreen, drink plenty of fluids, and seek shade regularly.

✈️ Practical information

  • How do I book my flight? After booking, you will receive practical information from Sealence regarding flights and any hotel stays. You can fly to Marsa Alam or Hurghada. Only book your flight after your trip has been definitively confirmed by Sealence.
  • Can I extend my stay in Egypt? Yes. You can choose to arrive earlier or stay longer in Egypt after the trip. This way, you can acclimatize at your leisure or discover even more of Egypt.
  • Do I need a visa? A tourist visa is required for Egypt. The cost is currently around €30. Always check the current requirements for your nationality before departure. Your passport must be valid for at least six months upon your return.
  • Is travel insurance mandatory? Yes. Travel insurance is mandatory for participation in this trip. Cancellation insurance is not mandatory, but is recommended. Check whether your insurance covers the activities during the trip.
  • What can I do about seasickness? There may be swells during the crossing. Fresh air, plenty of fluids, and eating small snacks regularly can help. If you are prone to seasickness, bring the remedies that work well for you and discuss any symptoms with the crew.
